A dispute between two New York roommates has gone viral after both women took to TikTok to share their sides of a housing disagreement. The conflict began when one roommate planned to move out, leaving the other worried she could lose her apartment because she could not afford the rent on her own. As both creators posted videos responding to one another, the private dispute quickly turned into a public internet spectacle.

The two New York roommates at the center of the controversy are @cozygrocery and @marlynlikethefish. Their videos have collectively attracted millions of views, with viewers closely following each new update and response. The ongoing back-and-forth has become one of the platform’s latest viral roommate dramas, drawing thousands of comments from users trying to determine who is in the right.

The first creator to publicly discuss the situation was cozygrocery, who posted a lengthy series of videos detailing her experience. According to her account, the situation became increasingly stressful because her roommate repeatedly appeared uncertain about whether she would stay or leave.

Cozygrocery said she eventually found a replacement roommate, but that arrangement fell apart after the property’s management increased the rent, causing the prospective tenant to back out. She later found another potential roommate but worried that person might also change their mind. Throughout the process, she said the lack of clear communication from both her roommate and the property’s management left her feeling overwhelmed.

The situation became even more public after cozygrocery launched a GoFundMe campaign. In the fundraiser description, she explained that she had spent more than a year moving between sublets while trying to establish herself as a full-time artist in New York City.

She claimed that uncertainty surrounding her housing situation, combined with issues involving both her roommate and the landlord, had left her unsure whether she would need to cover an entire month’s rent herself or find a new place to live on short notice.

Marlynlikethefish later responded with a video of her own, disputing several of cozygrocery’s claims. She argued that the arrangement was always intended to be a sublease and that the possibility of a roommate leaving should have been expected from the beginning.

Marlynlikethefish also pointed out that cozygrocery had moved several times within a relatively short period and suggested that recurring housing issues might not be solely the fault of other people. She further criticized the TikTok series and questioned the need for a GoFundMe, arguing that financial instability was a major factor in the dispute.

New York Roommates Drama Divides TikTok

The viral feud between the two New York roommates quickly divided viewers. Many commenters said they watched videos from both accounts in an attempt to piece together the full story. Some believed neither side presented a completely convincing case. “Both of y’all are wrong, lmfao,” one viewer wrote.

Others focused on specific details from the two New York roommates. Some questioned why cozygrocery appeared to change her plans multiple times throughout the leasing process, while supporters argued that changing information from the landlord made the situation difficult to navigate.

Financial stability also became a major topic of debate, with some viewers saying it was reasonable to be cautious about signing a lease with someone whose income appeared uncertain, while others felt cozygrocery was being unfairly criticized for pursuing a creative career.

The GoFundMe campaign generated its own controversy. Critics questioned whether it was appropriate to seek donations during a housing dispute, while supporters argued that crowdfunding is a common way for people to get through unexpected hardships.

At this point, the apartment drama between the two New York roommates has become so sprawling that some viewers seem less interested in the housing dispute itself and more interested in keeping up with the latest episode. For many TikTok users, the roommate feud has become the reality show they never asked for, but can’t stop watching.
