A White couple in Minnesota was accused of racism after they allegedly harassed a Somali family who were visiting the area to look at homes. The woman who shared the video was a family member and filmed the confrontation as it unfolded. She wrote on top of the video that the couple was residents of the neighborhood. According to her, the pair allegedly “ran outside” to confront and harass her Somali family while they were in the area looking for a house to purchase.
The video showed the man from the couple standing near the family’s car while making remarks that the family described as racist. At the beginning of the footage, the woman filming could be heard telling him, “worry about your own money.” According to her account, this response came after the man had allegedly accused the family of stealing money before the recording began.
The woman continued to repeat the same statement while the man remained focused on her family members who were still sitting inside the car. During the exchange, he could be heard telling them, “You steal.” In response, the woman began criticizing his behavior and told him, “You sad as [expletive].”
As the confrontation continued, the man then told the family, “Nobody wants you here. Not a single person here wants you.” He later made another racist remark toward the woman filming, telling her, “I can smell you from here.” The accusation that the family had stolen money was repeated as he began questioning where they had obtained the money they planned to use to purchase a house.
“Why are you so worried? Why are you so pressed? I’m confused. Nobody bothered you guys. You guys decided to be in people’s business,” the woman told him as his partner walked over and stood beside him. “You guys steal money,” was the first thing the partner said after joining the confrontation, echoing the accusations that had already been made toward the family.
The video ended with the couple continuing to accuse the Somali family of stealing money. As the confrontation came to a close, the woman filming told them, “You guys are sad.” She also added text on top of the video expressing how the encounter made her feel, writing, “These people don’t want us here and they’re not hiding it anymore.” The footage quickly gained attention online and sparked debate over the couple’s comments and behavior.

More people expressed sympathy for the family and condemned the couple’s behavior. “This is so sad, and so close to me. Not all of us men are like this. You would be as welcomed as my neighbor. Sorry you have to deal with this racism. [Hearts] to you and your family,” one person wrote. Another commenter said, “I am so sorry this happened. Most of my neighbors are Somali and Mexican and Asian, white and old and young and disabled …. We all belong! This sort of bigotry needs to move away! I love MN with all my heart and all the races, color, creed that call MN home also, this is so sad.”
The video sparked a conversation about the racism and discrimination that some Somali families experience in their daily lives. It also led to broader discussions about tolerance, inclusion, and the importance of treating others with respect rather than making assumptions or resorting to hostility based on their background or ethnicity.
