A short video has been circulating online that features a woman who allegedly robbed another woman’s bag in New York City, New York, though she left evidence behind on a pair of Ray-Ban Meta glasses. Despite the clip being very short, it has gone viral for how ridiculous the thief’s actions were.

The video was originally posted on the social media platform TikTok, where viewers left numerous comments. Ray-Ban Meta glasses have long had mixed reactions, with there being some cases of people being recorded without their consent due to their filming abilities.

The video above is only a few seconds long, and shows a woman wearing a pair of Ray-Ban Meta glasses as she looks into a mirror at what the original poster says is the “Rec Center.” According to the text written over the video, “Sooo I was at the Rec Center today and this lady went into my bag took my money out my wallet, took my perfume left my cards i Pad etc…but took a video on my metas and left the glasses with the evidence…“

It is never disclosed exactly how much was taken, though the ridiculousness of the thief leaving behind evidence has sparked increasing online attention.

Reactions Towards New York Rec Room Thief

The video has gained significant online traction not just because of the items that were stolen, but because of how the thief’s face was so clearly caught on the glasses that she likely was also going to take. It has also prompted discussions concerning the safety of one’s personal items within the Rec Center. One commenter even replied to the video with, “Wait which rec center? cuz that looks like the one I go to.”

In an update video, it is explained further that the bag was locked in a locker while the original poster went to work out. She only discovered the robbery after she had already left the Rec Center.

As the clip continues to circulate, there is an active investigation going on to try to have everything that was stolen returned to her.
