A New York woman blasts the idea that feminists hate motherhood and claims that it’s the other side that doesn’t. The video she posts on TikTok is in response to a clip of a new mother holding her baby. In this, the mother states, “Whoever sold this as being oppression, shame on you.”
The New York woman has a swift response: “No one says that.” Furthermore, she says that she is so “tired of conservative women buying into this lie.” She states that “there’s only one side that hates motherhood.” And then adds that it’s not her side that is trying to force women to fit into particular roles. Additionally, she argues that it’s thanks to feminists that pregnant women, mothers, and families receive any support. The example she gives is the Family and Medical Leave Act, which allows women time off after giving birth.
Other examples include women not getting fired just for being pregnant and the workplace adapting to the needs of new mothers. The New York woman says, “Feminists respect the work that’s being done in the home so much that decades ago they launched a Wages for Housework Campaign.” To her, it’s her ‘side’ that sees the work done in the home and the value it has to the economy. Her response has over 135,000 views and over 30,000 likes.

Many in the comments support the New York woman’s statements, claiming that it was motherhood that made them appreciate feminism. One says, “Becoming a mom only made me more feminist.” Another adds, “The most vehement feminists I know are mothers.” A third commenter argues, “motherhood brought out my primal rage.”
Meanwhile, one commenter claims she’s a stay-at-home mom and her “biggest supporters are liberal women.” However, others say the anti-feminist idea is nothing new, leading some to ask, “Why is oppression so integral to their messaging?” Another says that despite this, they’re still “benefiting from the hard work” that the New York woman mentions.
