Sometimes, it’s hard to deal with family. It’s even harder when their political views don’t align with your own to the point of them becoming hateful toward you. Now, imagine being the daughter of a republican state senator when you’re not a republican yourself. It sounds like a recipe for disaster and something that probably creates a lot of conflict. This is exactly what a New York TikToker deals with, whose dad is a republican state senator.
TikToker Maddie (@maddie.block) shared a video saying that her New Mexico republican state senator father is “crashing out.” Why? Apparently, he isn’t happy that Zohran Mamdani won the NYC mayoral race over Andrew Cuomo. If you know anything about Mamdani, you’ve probably heard that he’s a democratic socialist and he’s also Muslim. That doesn’t seem to fare well with the MAGA crowd, whose racism has come out in full way before the election. Maddie says that she’s not sure why her father is “at all concerned” about what’s going on where she lives in New York, instead of his home state.
Maddie’s father, Jay C. Block, posted a nasty crash-out to Twitter, calling Mamdani a “Jew hating Commie.” He also said they voted for an Attorney General who “fantasized about killing Republicans and their kids and said if more cops were killed, there would be less police shootings.” Her father is surely something, and quite the outspoken man. Maddie was left flabbergasted, confused by what her father’s words even meant. She goes on to say, “Mamdani was literally endorsed by a Rabbi, and by Jewish leaders in Brooklyn.” She also points out that Mamdani said, “Together, we will fight the scourge of antisemitism and build a city that works for every New Yorker.” Apparently, some republicans will just parrot anything they hear.
It’s times like these where we are sometimes left to question our relatives and friends who have differing views. This is especially true when those views are harmful and false. Maddie fully believes that her father should stay focused on what’s happening in New Mexico, especially since he holds the position of a literal senator in that state. That seems like a fair call-out.
One person quipped in Maddie’s comments, “I want to be a fly on the wall at ya’ll’s Thanksgiving.” Maddie claims that she hasn’t spoken with her father “in years” so her Thanksgiving is well-protected. Another person believes that Mamdani’s win caused her republican father discomfort. They said, “They know their world is changing and they hate that. They have believed so much propaganda that anything new or different to them is scary or un-American.” This is likely the case.
