When Destiny 2 comes to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X, the game will run at 60 frames per second for the first time on a console, eventually. The newest raid of the game will also become available to players shortly after the release of next-gen consoles which coincides with the release of the Beyond Light expansion.

Next-gen

Next-Gen Performance

In a pair of blog posts over on the official Destiny website, Bungie revealed the upgrades that fans of the game can expect to see on next-gen consoles. On all three next-gen machines (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X), Destiny 2 will be upgraded to:

  • Run at 60 frames per second instead of the current limit of thirty
  • Include a field of view slider
  • Load levels and assets at a faster rate
  • Allow play across console generations
  • Allow upgrade from current-gen versions to next-gen versions free of charge

The only aspect of the upgraded version of Destiny 2 that differs from console to console is the maximum resolution possible. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will run Destiny 2 at 4K resolution while the Xbox Series S will max out at 1080p.

There are also some limits to the upgrade process. Many of the upgraded features will not be available on November 10 when the first of the next-gen consoles launches. The faster load times and cross-generational play features will be the ones available on launch day, with the rest coming on December 10.

The Race to World First

Bungie also revealed the release time for the next Destiny 2 raid which doubles as the kickoff of the race to world first completion of the raid. For those who don’t follow Destiny closely, World First is a title that Bungie bestows upon the first team to complete a given raid after its launch. This year the title comes with a title belt and will be certified by a special team at Bungie. The Destiny team did not reveal any details about the setting or story for the new raid. They only showed the release date and a few details about the contest:

  • The raid will unlock at 10 am Pacific time on November 21.
  • The Player character’s power level will be capped at 1230.
  • This power level will be 20 below the recommended power for the raid.
  • The power boost from the seasonal artifact will be disabled in the World First contest mode.

Some very exciting news for players of Destiny 2. Hopefully you’ll enjoy the upgrades that next-gen has to offer. Will you be jumping in on the launch day of the next-gen consoles? Let me know in the comments below!
