If you’ve been wondering where Kratos’ next deicide will take place, Sony might have dropped a strong hint. A recent listing and casting call from the multimedia giant has asked specifically for Middle Eastern actors or voice actors for an unspecific AAA game, which leads to speculation that the next God of War will take place in Egypt and feature Egyptian mythology.
The information came from Daniel Richtman a.k.a. DanielRPK, an insider who runs a scoop and story membership via Patreon. In one of DanielRPK’s updates, this is exactly what he revealed:
“Sony is casting Middle Eastern actors for an unknown AAA game, which is likely to be the next God of War that explores Egyptian mythology,” according to DanielRPK Patreon page.
By ‘explore’ that usually means Kratos uppercutting the Egyptian mythology gods and dragging their faces on the dirt, maybe even procuring a half-god bastard or two. However, until Sony itself confirms where the next God of War title is headed, this Egyptian mythology angle is just speculation.
Egyptian Mythology was Already in Consideration Prior
The ‘unknown AAA game’ could also possibly be a new IP, which is why it’s labeled as unknown– or it could be God of War, and Sony simply likes to keep things secret. Daniel Richtman, however, is generally considered a reliable insider, with the majority of his leaks and insider information proving to be true or accurate.
Still, this isn’t the first time God of War and Egyptian mythology in a single breath. In fact, Cory Barlog himself, director of the God of War reboot, has stated in an interview that the future God of War games could take on Egyptian Mythology as far back as 2018.
Prior to that, way back in 2016, Barlog recalls that half the team for the God of War reboot was into Egyptian mythology. The team merely chose Norse mythology for the reboot to better portray Kratos as a stranger in a stranger place. This time around, however, that kind of theme isn’t needed anymore and Ancient Egypt’s more fertile civilization and pantheon is ripe for God of War.
