For those of you who aren’t into monster battling, this year is Pokemon’s 2oth anniversary. That’s right; twenty years ago, the first games about young children using dangerous monsters for bloodsport came out in Japan. And to honor, it Splatoon’s next Splatfest will be themed around the original games, Pokemon Red and Blue.
Released in Japan as Red and Green and Red and Blue everywhere else, dividing up a game into two slightly different versions became a mainstay of the series. Each version had a handful of unique Mons, requiring you to trade with your friends if you wanted to catch ’em all. Even though there was almost no difference between the games, everyone had their favourite and friendships were made or broken depending on which one you liked.
Well, now you can fight it out in the family friendly warfare of Splatoon. According to Splatoon’s official Tumblr;
“Head to the Inkopolis Plaza and select which game is your favorite: Pokémon Red or Pokémon Blue!
This Splatfest will begin on February 19 at 10:00 PM PT and will run until February 20 at 10:00 PM PT.
This Splatfest will also happen simultaneously around the world. Like any other Splatfest, however, players you get matched with will be from your region, and the results will also be tallied by each region.”
