Nicki Minaj has been requested to testify against the hit-and-run driver who killed her allegedly abusive father in February 2021. Charles Polevich, 70, was found guilty of hitting Robert Maraj (who was 64 at the time) in the accident. After striking Maraj, Polevich briefly stopped the car but then sped away, OK! Magazine reports.
Maraj was rushed to hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries a few hours after arrival. As for Polevich, he was found guilty and sentenced to one year in prison.
Carol Maraj Sues Charles Polevich For Leaving Her Husband Helpless
Polevich is awaiting his sentencing hearing, but has been sued by Nicki’s mother, Carol Maraj, for leaving her husband to die “like a dog on the street.”
Carol claimed that Polevich’s reckless behavior caused her to lose the “services, society, comfort, companionship and consortium” of her husband. She is now suing Polevich for $150 million, but although Polevich accepts his responsibility for the accident, he alleged how Maraj had been “reckless, careless and negligent in crossing the street.”
Nevertheless, he came to terms with the extent of the tragedy and insisted there was “no excuse” for his behavior. Polevich’s lawyers seek to fight the lawsuit. “My client empathizes with the family,” they said, per documents obtained by RadarOnline. “The question of whether there was negligence and degrees of negligence will be determined by the court. The $150 million amount seems to be over the top.”
The lawyers continued, “[Carol] acknowledges that statements related to the topic of domestic abuse were made by” Nicki, “but [Carol] does not offer meaningful responses regarding the veracity of the statements made” by her daughter.
Carol found the request for Minaj’s comment rather disrespectful. She claimed Nicki had no part in the lawsuit and “to have her testify as to musical lyrics, which could be completely made up, false, and taken out of context, was a waste of time and borderline harassment for the family.”
