It’s not a new concept for smaller artist to try to rip off some of the bigger names in the industry by copying their styles and trying to be more like them, but at some point, it just becomes a bit too obvious. In the case of Nicki Minaj‘s Met Gala look, it couldn’t have been more straightforward and clear that somebody was trying to recreate the look with a bit less “Garden of Time” flair.
Nicki Minaj’s Met Gala Look Was Ripped Off
Nicki Minaj’s look for the 2024 Met Gala was pretty unique. It’s rare to see such a literal artistic touch to a gown that you know when somebody else is trying to steal the idea. Minaj’s look was quite slightly different than the others at the Met, featuring thigh-length vibrant yellow colors, hand-crafted metal flowers, and most importantly, a “painted brush stroke” texture that makes it seem like the dress had been painted on her.
Yesterday, Charli XCX posted some some photos on Instagram from her time in New York. The first couple of images look fantastic and really show off some of her greatest features, but once you scroll through the images a bit deeper, you’ll find her in a dress that’s eerily similar to Nicki’s Met Gala dress. Charli’s look features the same brush stroke-like texture, looking like it had been crafted from layers of oil paint. Even the colors suggest similarities in its bland yellow and gray tones.
Charli XCX attended the 2024 Met Gala along with Nicki Minaj, but in a vastly different style. She arrived wearing an all-white gown made of old t-shirts peppered with holes. She rocked a more “punk” style to the gala, but that didn’t stop her from recreating Nicki’s look after the event ended.
