Nicole Scherzinger is clearing the air about her alleged support for Donald Trump. The Pussycat Dolls member got into political hot water after a comment on Russell Brand‘s post. Now, Scherzinger is explaining the motivation behind her words, saying it had nothing to do with the incoming president.
Days after the saga played out, Scherzinger took to her Instagram Story to issue a lengthy statement. “I deeply apologize for the hurt caused by my recent engagement with some social media posts,” she began. “When I commented on these posts, I made the mistake of not realizing that they could be easily interpreted as being politically related, and I apologize.” The Hawaii native noted that several conclusions have been made from her actions. However, she says they do “not reflect who I am, what I stand for, or who I voted for.” The singer didn’t reveal who she voted for in the 2024 elections. However, she expressed sympathy for the marginalized communities “feeling hurt and concerned” by the results.
“I stand with them, as I always have, throughout my life and career. If you know me, you know that.”
Scherzinger further explained the reasoning behind her viral comment, saying that she turns to her “faith” during difficult times. “I believed that the posts I engaged with were about encouraging people to choose love and faith—’putting Jesus first,'” she noted. The 46-year-old elaborated on how her Christian faith embodies peaceful and loving attributes. “I come from a place of love, and I will always support values that bring us closer together,” she concluded.
Why Did Fans Think Nicole Scherzinger Voted For Donald Trump?
Scherzinger’s angered fans earlier this week when she gave her stamp of approval to Brand’s political post. On Instagram, the actor uploaded a photo of him proudly brandishing a red ‘Make Jesus First Again’ hat. “God Bless America,” he captioned the post. In the comments, the X Factor judge wrote, “Where do I get this hat!!!?” alongside prayer hands and red heart emojis.
Although the songstress didn’t publicly endorse any candidate, fans online interpreted her comment as a support for Trump. Brand is a known supporter of the convicted president, so that didn’t help matters. It didn’t take long for angry trolls to heap insults on the Right There singer. “Nice, predator enabling,” slammed one user while another wrote, “This is why she fell off!”
As fans criticized Scherzinger, comments from her past about being anti-abortion rights surfaced. The singer, born Catholic, told Daily Mail in 2016 that she almost turned down the TV remake of Dirty Dancing because of her belief. “I was like a crazy thing because my family, my Papa’s a Bishop, and my family’s really hardcore against abortion,” explained. However, after her grandfather prayed on the role, he encouraged her to take it and be a voice. “So, I just want to, you know, encourage everybody to keep your babies,” Scherzinger advised.
