A Nintendo Direct has been announced for February 13th at 2 pm PT/5 pm ET. The announcement comes from the way of Nintendo’s official Twitter account. The presentation is set to take place over 35-minutes with the only confirmed game to be present being Fire Emblem: Three Houses. The Direct will focus solely on Nintendo Switch titles. This is Nintendo’s first Direct since November so it is shaping up to have a lot of information to reveal for their 2019 slate. So, what should we be expecting heading into this exciting Nintendo Direct?
Well, first and foremost let’s focus on Fire Emblem: Three Houses. This is the first Fire Emblem coming to a home console since Radiant Dawn on the Nintendo Wii. What we have seen so far has been promising, showing off large scale battles and updated visuals. Last we heard of it, Fire Emblem: Three Houses got a Spring 2019 release window. It is safe to assume that we will get a hard release date for the title, hopefully in the earlier part of the season. During this Nintendo Direct, we can expect Nintendo to put a great deal of time trying to sell fans new and old on the upcoming title.
The other 2019 title that has been confirmed is Animal Crossing for the Nintendo Switch. In the brief announcement trailer, (which took place after the reveal of Isabelle in Super Smash Bros Ultimate), we saw a title card for Animal Crossing and a 2019 release date. It is safe to assume that we will hear more about the new entry in this Nintendo Direct, hopefully getting at least a release window and an official title.
For the final shoe in, we have Super Smash Bros Ultimate information. It was announced at The Game Awards 2018 that Joker will be a playable character in Smash. The Persona 5 protagonist will be the first fighter available via the Fighter Pass. It is likely that Nintendo will show off gameplay of the new fighter, as well as the stage that will be available. Fans can hope that a release date will be shown as Piranha Plant has already been released and Joker is next up. The final bit of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate news that may be present in this Nintendo Direct is the announcement of any future DLC characters. It was rumored that the next character will be from Square Enix’s Dragon Quest series.
Those are the few things that are almost guaranteed to be present, but let’s have some fun with some bold predictions. Super Mario Maker 2 is almost definitely going to be happening at some point. In a year without a new Mario, Zelda, or Smash Bros game for Nintendo to lean on, it’s a safe bet that Super Mario Maker 2 could fill that void. It’s just a matter of when Nintendo wants to reveal it. Additionally, with the announcement that Metroid Prime 4 is restarting development, the heavily rumored Metroid Prime Trilogy Remastered could be in the works to appease those disappointed by the wait. Finally, Nintendo is due for another mainline Pikmin title. Could one be announced for the Switch in this Nintendo Direct?
This isn’t even mentioning Nintendo’s plans for future online support, the game that Retro has been working on, and potential Pokemon Generation 8 news. There is a lot that could happen in tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct, but what are you most excited for? Leave a comment below and tell us what you think!
