Nintendo may have just shown off the new Switch model unanticipatedly. Nintendo released its first hybrid gaming console in 2017, Switch, but the latest financial report indicates that the Switch’s successor might be revealed at any time. The handheld console fans have been speculating whether Nintendo might release a more powerful Switch version for a while. There have been rumors of a “Pro” model or a brand-new Nintendo Switch 2, but Nintendo hasn’t officially stated that it’s developing. However, this may have changed with the new report.
More Powerful Nintendo Switch 2 Becomes a Reality
It is said that Nintendo’s raw materials and supplies expenditures in the 2022 fiscal year were much higher than usual. According to the report, the company spends almost twice as much material as when it produced Switch Lite a few years ago. Nintendo’s spending on more raw materials and supplies may show itself in the new Switch console that will be released soon. The Japanese company spent an average of $15 million annually on material costs from 2015 to 2017. However, the expenditures have increased significantly since 2018, and of course, for 2022. It is projected to be close to $500 million, which is 8,000 times greater than the average spending and more than double the numbers in 2019.
On the other hand, Nintendo submitted a filing request for the “NSW” trademark to the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office) on June 29. This filing may refer to a game console or various products and services related to video games. The trademark specifies video gaming equipment, games, toys, and playthings. “Recorded and downloadable media, computer software, blank digital or analog recording and storage media” were some of the products on file.
Nintendo hasn’t confirmed whether it is developing a new Switch model. But it’s not surprising that the company is working on a more powerful Switch, as it has a big competitor like the Steam Deck in the handheld console world.
