If you have a Nintendo Switch, chances are you might have experienced the accursed Joy-con drift that we all know and hate. The company had even been sued for this controller fault in the past. After years of waiting, Nintendo will fix all drifting Joy-Cons in the UK and EEA. It’s a free Nintendo Joy-con repair service!
Free Nintendo Joy-Con Repair Service
This information was spotted by Nintendo Life on the Nintendo Support Website. The company stated that anyone experiencing drifting Joy-cons can send their fault controllers in and get a free repair, regardless of how old they are. This service will roll out in the UK and EEA.
This policy was in place previously in North America but has now extended to the EU, Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway, The UK, and Switzerland. The website clearly states,
“Until further notice, Nintendo will not charge you in the European Economic Area (EEA), UK, and Switzerland for the repair of the responsiveness syndrome irrespective of whether this is caused by a defect or by wear and tear.”
The only exception to the rule is third-party controllers not built in-house by Nintendo. And there are also some special rules. Users that have caused accidental damage via negligence or opened up their controller in order to repair it will not be able to avail of the free Joy-con repair service.
The whole Joy-con drift debacle has been around ever since the Nintendo Switch launched back in 2017. The Joy-cons got some revisions along the line, only to not address the recurrent issue. It’s a problem that persists to this day, even on new Joy-Cons.
In June 2022, a supervisor at a Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Repair Center in the US stated that the company was flabbergasted by the number of faulty controllers they received.
