This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information.

As if this year wasn’t hard enough, there will be no new details about the highly-anticipated The Elder Scrolls 6 for years to come.

Yep, that’s right. According to Bethesda senior vice president Pete Hines, news about The Elder Scrolls 6 will come “years from now.” He emphasized that details regarding Starfield will come before any news about The Elder Scrolls 6. Considering we know practically nothing about Starfield, this is discouraging.

Since just details about The Elder Scrolls 6 are years from now, the release date must be farther still. It will probably be well into the next-generation before the game graces consoles and PC.

It’s after Starfield, which you pretty much know nothing about. So if you’re coming at me for details now and not years from now, I’m failing to properly manage your expectations.

Bethesda will not have a digital show this year in lieu of its canceled E3 showing.  We will still hear some news about Arkane Studio’s Deathloop and Tango Gameworks’ Ghostwire: Tokyo. But the lack of a digital show means that news about Starfield will not come this year, which also means that details about The Elder Scrolls 6 is farther off still.

Bethesda has certainly begun development on the game, though. Job listings on Zenimax, Bethesda’s parent company, have revealed that the key features are beginning to be developed, although the project is clearly in its infancy.

The fact that both Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6 is so far away isn’t good news for Bethesda either. The reputation of the company has been tarnished with the terrible release and subsequent support of Fallout 76. If there is ever a time for Bethesda to recover some face, it’s now.

However, Bethesda is still finding success as a publisher. Doom Eternal has recently received critical praise, with some saying it is and will easily be one of the best games of 2020.
