While plastic isn’t necessarily toxic, swallowing or ingesting it can come with its own problems and damage that can be done to your digestive tract. Size, of course, matters, and one Chick-fil-A customer in North Carolina found a particularly large piece of plastic in her salad. While no larger than the tines of their fork, the mysterious chunk could most definitely cause them to choke or scratch up their insides with its dangerously sharp corners. Fortunately, she spotted it before anything bad happened and uploaded her discovery to r/whatisit.
Fortunately, one person in the comment section knew exactly what the big piece of plastic from the Chick-fil-A salad was, as it was something they’d often see at work. “Oh wow I work with hazardous chemicals in a lab and know EXACTLY what that is!” they exclaimed. “It’s the broken off tip of a plastic drum strap.” As to why Chick-fil-A put it into someone’s salad, it was likely an accident. However, other commenters add that the piece itself came from a strap locking a container of pickles, sauce, or other food items shipped in bulk.
“The worst words to hear in response to ‘What’s this thing I found in my salad’ is definitely ‘Well, I work in a hazardous chemicals lab, and…’” laughs a Redditor. And OP most certainly agreed: “I appreciate the answer so much, but my stomach definitely did a flip after reading ‘I work with hazardous chemicals in a lab.’” It probably wasn’t the most promising way to start off an explanation about a foreign object in someone’s salad, but the lab worker was 100% correct.
OP did update on what happened after she contacted Chick-fil-A to report the piece of plastic found in her salad. “I reported this to CFA immediately after it happened and I got a call today solely offering for me to come back for a new salad, 🤦🏻♀️” she sighed. While plenty of Americans will agree that the food at Chick-fil-A is decent, this sort of response does fall in line with its deteriorating reputation, particularly related to the LGBTQ+ community. As one person added, “Exactly the quality of food you can expect from Rabid Homophobic Chicken.”
