North Carolina’s U.S. Representative candidate Richard Ojeda has recently come under fire after a video in which he called for a “violent uprising” against the current federal administration surfaced. Reactions online were largely negative toward the North Carolina candidate, as many believed violence was not the answer.

The video, posted by the Democratic candidate, quickly became a point of controversy online, with right-wing publications such as Libs of TikTok amplifying its reach by criticizing it.

Democrat nominee for Congress in NC-09 Richard Ojeda calls for a violent uprising against the Trump admin:

“The only way we get rights back is for fighting for them! That’s it. Bleeding for them! Dying for them!”

In the video, Ojeda can be seen saying that U.S. citizens are “losing more and more rights” every day and that this cannot be tolerated. He also claimed that the only way to get these rights back is by “fighting for them, bleeding for them, dying for them.”

Ojeda is currently running for the U.S. House of Representatives in North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District. Before entering politics, he served in the U.S. Army from 1989 to 2014. He later represented the 7th district in the West Virginia Senate from 2016 to 2019.

People React to North Carolina’s U.S. Representative Candidate’s Angry Video

Most people on X were not very sympathetic to Ojeda’s video. One user described it as “Violent uprising by another lunatic radical dem. Inciting violence should be automatic removal from the ballot. Anyone who’s this unhinged should be ineligible to run for office.”

Others criticized the politician for saying that people are losing rights while failing to specify which ones: “He says we’re losing rights every day but can’t name a single one of them he’s lost… Leftist lunatic white liberals are simply psychotic.” Someone else chimed in: “What rights did we lose? How come nobody can ever answer that question?”

Some people also accused him of hypocrisy, saying: “He means you bleed and die… he’ll give speeches.” Finally, another user who also disapproved of his arguments said: “Bless him for his service. I wish the VA was better at helping these mentally afflicted vets. Now lock him up for his violent threats against the president and get him some help while he’s in there.”

It remains to be seen whether Ojeda will win the election. He has already secured the Democratic nomination in the district but will still have to defeat the Republican nominee in the general election.
