At a time when so many videos across social media focus on politics or the world’s troubles, one North Carolina mom chose to bring a little levity instead, recording her daughter playing nurse with her Butterfly Pig doll to give viewers a reason to smile. It’s incredible how much an adaptive and inclusive doll can change the way that a child plays. Sometimes, it really is the small details that can make a singular moment far more magical than imagined possible, and it’s great that a mother was able to provide that for her child.
McLaren Jewell is a stay-at-home mother of two young girls, with one of them having been diagnosed with childhood cancer. Many of the posts on her TikTok page, @mclarenjewellfam, revolve around this alongside other things she does with her loving family. This video isn’t much different, as it shows her daughter Josie playing nurse with one of her dolls.
However, the doll isn’t just your average toy; it’s a Butterfly Pig doll, and it simulates a child who also has cancer. The doll is fitted with various devices and accessories so that Josie can pretend she is actually helping care for someone just like her. It’s also adorable to see just how much she truly knows about her own condition and how to care for herself.
She even had a cart filled with even more accessories that can be used for pretend medical play with the doll. This sort of inclusivity is obviously incredibly important, and you can tell just how much fun Josie is having throughout.

Commenters were in absolute awe of this, with many of them singling out her nurses and how kind they must have been to her, saying, “As a pediatric nurse it warms my heart to see how nice she is to her patients. It means they were nice to her too 🥲” Other people were a little bit more comedic, asking if she can come cover their shift at the hospital, saying, “Is she available tonight from 7pm-7am?? We’re short staffed.”
It’s wonderful to see Josie living her best life, and that Butterfly Pig was able to help her achieve that. Hopefully, more toy companies will create inclusive toys like these for people like Josie to be able to enjoy and play with them like everyone else.
