With the price of gas and the war in Iran, a veteran’s advocate in North Carolina isn’t buying the rhetoric from MAGA voters that Biden is to blame. In his video, TikTok user Empathytour (David) argues the real problem is President Trump.
“Gas prices are up,” David says in his TikTok video, and lists a series of political turmoil happening in the U.S. David calls attention to ICE and all manner of federal agents telling civilians to “‘show me your papers’” to prove citizenship. Additionally, he talks of President Trump’s decisions in dealing with the war in Iran.
Diesel is going over $5 in North Carolina, where David lives, he says, but he shares his fear that all this will lead to more Americans dying. “We’re going to see thousands upon thousands of needless unnecessary casualties,” David argues, and calls out Israel as being complicit and helping start the war in Iran.
Given the size of David’s audience, his video garnered several thousand likes and over 200 comments. Many were angry and frustrated by gas prices and the rising cost of living in the U.S. People were unconvinced it had everything to do with the Trump Administration’s war with Iran.
People Shared Their Anger Over More War and Cost of Living
Comparing prices to the U.S., a TikTok user claiming to be from the Netherlands shared that gas prices in their area ranged from $9 to nearly $11 USD! “Great, huh?” they said. In the same thread, a London resident shared seeing “$10.75” for diesel. Others from other European countries argued Americans will end up paying the same.
According to AP News, the U.S. is nearly $4 on average; states like Washington and California were seeing $5 to $6 just a few days prior (source: Forbes).
One TikToker was brave enough to admit they “almost scrolled” past David’s video. “Reminder I shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover,” they wrote.
Another commenter shared their dismal outlook of the future, suggesting life in the U.S. is going to get “way worse” and “very difficult.”
With how unpopular the war in Iraq was, it’s not surprising to see such pushback against the war in Iran on David’s TikTok video. A lot of people in the U.S. are struggling, so this just feels like salt in a wound.
