If there’s one place people really need their privacy, it’s the bathroom, so putting up a camera in one would be a bad idea, right? Well, a bar owner in North Dakota doesn’t seem to think so, as he had a ceiling camera installed in the women’s restroom. While it isn’t a hidden camera, the fact that it’s boldly positioned in a corner pointed at those using the bathroom doesn’t make it any less creepy.
“A camera like this in the bathroom is extremely illegal. I would highly doubt the police would just ignore that,” remarks a user on Reddit reacting to a post about the matter. The person who uploaded the photo claims that several people on Facebook are arguing over the matter. “[The] owner’s daughter and son are in the comments making light of it/saying it’s legal.” And bizarrely, there are others who support their view, saying that it’s not a big deal. Several people use the excuse that the bar owner has run a successful business for years, so he would know better than to sabotage his business’s reputation by illegally placing a camera in the women’s room.
Many Believe the Bathroom Camera Is Illegal And Should Be Reported to the Police
The other half of the Facebook post’s comment section says that the bathroom camera is straight-up illegal and a lawsuit waiting to happen, according to OP. And almost everyone in the photo’s Reddit post believes the same. “You absolutely have a right to privacy in a bathroom,” as one person puts it, with plenty of others saying that this definitely warrants a report to the police. One commenter suggested taking things a step further and notifying North Dakota’s Attorney General, as well as major news outlets and local newspapers. With so many public eyes on the controversy, the owner would be more than compelled to take down the camera, hopefully.
Whatever the case, any sort of surveillance in a bathroom is creepy and wrong, hands down. Except for the very small handful in support of the bar owner’s decision, no woman would feel comfortable or safe seeing a camera on the ceiling of the ladies’ room.
