An impossible scene played out on a street in New York City when a brave citizen successfully held thieves at gunpoint and waited for the police to arrive. However, the thieves attempted to make their escape right under the officers’ noses. A video capturing the hilarious showdown was posted on Reddit. In the clip, two suspects wearing helmets were sitting on a motorcycle, apparently trying to make their escape. However, they could not move as a citizen was standing in front of them with a gun while urging them to remain where they were.
As the brave local pointed the gun at the thieves, other citizens gathered at the scene and brought out their phones to record. One of the individuals recording can be heard saying the thieves were “trying to die.” He also discussed the brave local pointing the gun at the thieves, saying he was “not even the police.”
Shortly after, three police officers (two males and one female) pulled up in a police vehicle, their sirens blasting. Clearly shocked at the scene unfolding, the individual recording can be heard saying it “seemed like a movie” and the criminals were the “dumbest.”
The male officers walked over to the thieves, who were still seated on the motorcycle, and got them to dismount. At first, the culprits seemed cooperative as they held up their hands in surrender. However, in a split second, one of the suspects ran off, causing one of the officers to take off on a foot chase. The other officer held the second suspect back. The female officer also pursued the criminal behind, albeit slowly, as she clearly struggled to engage in a foot chase and appeared physically unfit to do so.
As the suspect ran down the street in Washington Heights, a citizen attempted to stop him but was pushed to the ground. More security personnel engaged in the foot chase, but the female officer struggled to keep up as she trudged slowly behind.
When the clip was posted online, several users pointed out the slow pace of the female officer, commenting that her weight contributed to the ridiculous nature of the incident. One user commented, “Cops should not be allowed to be fat. I’m not saying that was the main issue here, but watching that fat lady try to keep up was rough.” Another user replied, “How in the f*ck do NYPD constantly lower the bar?”
One user who found the scene hilarious commented, “The fat a** lady cop waddling after the dude that was running 😂.” Another user remarked that they had no idea how the female officer landed the job as a cop. The user pointed out that a “toddler could outrun her” and called her a “walking liability.”
Other users called the cops “dumb” for letting it play out the way it did, and others pointed out that the thieves were more afraid of the citizen with the gun than the “fat waddling police.”
At the end of the video, it appeared that the male police officer successfully chased down the second suspect.
