A video has resurfaced of a brave NYPD officer who successfully talks a suicidal man down from the side of a bridge. The officer takes the situation into his own hands and does an incredible job of using his words and personal experience to convince the gentleman to stay put. However, it looks like the officer who was talking with him had an incredibly visceral reaction to the situation.
Reddit user ur_average_redditor posted the 2023 video of Officer Carl Fayette talking to another gentleman standing on the other side of a fence that protects people from falling into the road below. Throughout the duration of the video, Fayette speaks softly and consistently, telling the man that he cares for him and his life.
Finally, two different officers manage to get over the fence and secure the gentleman before he makes his decision. Just when Fayette ensures that the man is safe, he runs off the scene, bends down behind some cars, and cries.
In the replies to the video, many commentators empathized with the man, feeling that there was some story behind his tears. One reply said,
At the end of the day, Officer Carl Fayette did exactly what he was taught and ensured that he stayed in communication with the man for the duration of the conversation’s grueling 40 minutes.
