Trailer Breakdown and Release Date
The footage in the Uncharted movie trailer seems to show a scene of Tom Holland’s Nathan Drake falling through the air in a cargo plane, climbing various crates to try and make his way back inside, a likely homage to a similar scene from Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. Mark Wahlberg’s Sully also briefly appears in the trailer, and the end card lists the release date for Uncharted as February 18, 2022. The date is likely due to the film’s recent delay as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the loss of its original director, Shawn Levy. While Sony has taken down most sources of the video on YouTube, but the original Tweet has spread like wildfire on social media.
Sony has released stills and promotional images for the film in the past. The film adaption will follow a much younger version of Nathan Drake and serves as a sort of prequel storyline, though many scenes, like the cargo plane scene seen in the trailer, will be inspired by several moments from the games. More details are expected to be shared once the trailer officially drops.
This will not be Sony’s only venture into the film adaptation of their various IPs, as last year they confirmed multiple game-to-film projects in the works, including three movies and seven TV series based on its IP based on such series Ghosts of Tsushima and Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us TV series.
