Ohio Angry as SNAP Ban on Soda Approved By Federal Government ‘All you lazy people owe workers steak dinners’

SNAP goes the soda

Following the passage of state legislation last year, Ohio families and SNAP recipients are expressing frustration over an impending ban on soda and sugary beverages. Under the new guidelines set to take effect this October, Trump’s administration has redefined eligible “food” items to exclude high-sugar drinks, including soda. The initiative aims to pivot taxpayer funding toward nutritional essentials such as lean proteins, fresh produce, and dairy while stripping support for products the state has deemed detrimental to public health.

The federal government approved Ohio's restrictions on the purchase of sugary drinks with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services announced Wednesday. https://t.co/YgNP13Hdl4 pic.twitter.com/WaY3eUVY8i

Hot on the heels of the work restrictions that push the age at which citizens have to work to maintain SNAP benefits, another law passed by the Federal government pushes a ban on sugary drinks that goes into effect October 1st. As per NBC4I, Snap recipients from Ohio will not be able to purchase any drink that has sugar, corn syrup, high-fructose corn syrup, or other sweeteners as a primary ingredient. ODJFS Director Matt Damschroder said the following statement, which caused Ohio SNAP beneficiaries to erupt in anger.

This waiver that we requested and received through the USDA is a meaningful step toward better health outcomes for Ohioans on food assistance.

While many are upset about the strict SNAP changes affecting their day-to-day lives, some folks are celebrating the news. Some are voicing concerns about health and expressing anger at those who reap the benefits of their tax dollars for free food. Here is what some conservative Ohio citizens had to say to the folks angry about the new changes, which proved contentious to say the least.

“I can’t buy my grandkids s $2 candy bar,but a billionaire can buy a 13 year old girl to abuse? Only in America.”

“Good no more of our tax dollars going for junk food”

“Nope just pedos & their yachts now, yay!”

“That’s not enough. No junk food either. Meat and potatoes. Welfare isn’t a career choice. And all you leeches owe us workers steak dinners.”

“All you lazy people owe workers steak dinners” is insane lol”

It seems there is little recourse for folks looking to reverse the upcoming ban, but if the age restriction that went into effect concerns you, or you are wondering if you’re exempt from the upcoming changes, the Ohio SNAP portal will provide assistance and clarification.
