Afroman has won against the Adams County Police in Ohio and their defamation case. And while the rapper is currently savoring his victory, some of the more absurd highlights of the case and the trial kept going viral. In particular, retired officer Shawn Grooms blamed Afroman for his wife divorcing him, but surprisingly, the ex-wife came to Afroman’s defense, and the rapper himself also couldn’t pass up the chance to unleash a spicy diss track against Grooms.
The trial took place on March 18 and 19, and Shawn Grooms’ wife notably appeared again in Afroman’s defense in Ohio, contradicting Shawn’s claim that the rapper caused the divorce. “So the post never affected your life, your marriage?” asked Afroman’s defendant, something which Rhonda Grooms, the ex-wife, replied with “No, it did not.” Rhonda’s response directly contradicted Shawn’s earlier claims that “She was tired of hearing about him [Afroman],” which supposedly led to the divorce.
Earlier, however, around a week before the trial, Afroman already wrote up and uploaded a diss track against Shawn Grooms as part of his album, specifically targeting Adams County police officers who raided his house baselessly. In the Shawn Grooms diss track, titled “Shawn Grooming Grooms,” Afroman even had some messages for the former cop, “Just like you I cheated on my wife, just like you I [expletive] my life. Unlike you, I take accountability, but you don’t have the ability.”
Afroman was, of course, referring to Rhonda’s statements before the trial, where she supposedly revealed that Shawn was cheating on her with women whom he picked up in drug-related cases. At least that’s what Afroman’s song implied. Afroman further claims in his diss track that Shawn Grooms “has sex on duty with every drug addict he stops.”
It All Started With a Raid
The absurd thing about the public humiliation that the Adams County Police got themselves into was how they also brought it upon themselves. Back in 2022, Shawn Grooms and several other officers raided Afroman’s rural home in Ohio, on grounds that were proven to be baseless. The cops also caused $20,000 in damage and reportedly even stole $400 from Afroman.
Since then, Afroman has been at war with the police officers through creativity, publishing songs like “Lemon Pound Cake,” and individual diss tracks for all the cops involved. The cops involved eventually sued for defamation, leading to the recent trial, which Afroman won. Some of the cops were even brought to tears by how Afroman supposedly tarnished their reputation with his songs.
Meanwhile, people online were not only in awe at the spectacle but were also no doubt entertained by how Afroman handled the incident and his revenge. “Afroman is a prime example of why you don’t wrong creative artists, because the get back will be EPIC and everlasting,” claims an X commenter, with another saying, “This really needs to be made into a movie. A slapstick comedy. 😂.”
