An Ohio teen was very adamant about calling out her mother for the apparent lack of food in the house. The mom, fed up with her daughter’s complaining, decided to teach her a lesson in the most motherly way: by showing her a kitchen filled to the brim with ingredients, ready to be put together for a delicious meal.
The hilarious moment was shared on TikTok by the mother, who goes by the username laymalz (Lay). From the get-go, she was set on making a point, asking her teen daughter to say that they didn’t have groceries once again. Then, in what is probably a classic mom move, Lay showed a bowl of fruit to prove her wrong.
“So we have a bowl of fruit,” she said. “Literally almost every kind of fruit that you can ever think of.”
Then, the Ohio mother showed one of the pantries. Inside, there were a multitude of ingredients such as maple syrup, hot sauce, instant soup, and even cans of beans, whole nerel corn, and tomatoes. She added, “You couldn’t fit another can in there if your life depended on it.”
Lay showed another pantry filled with more ingredients, including Ragú, peppers, parmesan cheese, and even truffle aioli. Then she recorded a bowl of “junk food” that everyone could pick from. Her daughter, filled with regret for complaining, refused to show her face on camera.
As if she hadn’t already made her point, the mom showed two more pantries. This time, she showed Pop-Tarts, pretzels, and rice, among many other ingredients. To top it all off, the Ohio mother opened her fridge to find an abundance of food, including burger puffs, peas, milk, and whipped cream.
‘No Food’ Claim Debunked, Reactions
The mother fully intended to film every single ingredient in her fully stocked kitchen, but the video ended abruptly. In the video’s description, she gave some additional context, saying, “All weekend she complained about ‘no food’ and again tonight, so I had to call her out.”
And, apparently, calling her out was what the internet was craving for. The video was seen millions of times, garnering more than 177,000 likes and 6,000 comments. Users laughed in the comments section, agreeing with the mom that there was, in fact, food in the kitchen. Others, meanwhile, tried to understand where Lay’s daughter was coming from.
“Everything looks like it requires effort… That’s the problem,” one user said. Another commented, “She has no clue about how lucky and blessed she is.” A third added, “She means you didn’t cook.”
Based on her follow-up TikToks, it appears the daughter took the lesson well. They are a happy family after all, and lots of groceries certainly contribute to that.
