An Ohio Trump supporter was criticized online after blaming former President Joe Biden for the high gas prices. In a video shared online, the man was walking at an event when a reporter stopped him to ask about gas prices. “They suck,” he replied. When the reporter asked why he felt that way, the man answered, “because they are high as [expletive].”
When the reporter asked why he believed gas prices were high, the man blamed Democrats, despite Donald Trump currently being in office. “Because we had a Democrat in office for a very, very long time,” he said. He then singled out former President Joe Biden, adding, “I know it’s Joe Biden’s fault.” When the reporter asked him to explain his reasoning, the man responded by cursing the former president.
The reporter then asked the Trump supporter whether he thought the war in Iran was contributing to high gas prices. He proceeded to dismiss the connection. “Being a veteran myself, like I served two tours, so, gas prices have really nothing to do with war,” he explained. He also rejected the idea that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz was responsible for the higher prices.
When the reporter asked how the high gas prices were Biden’s fault, the man replied, “All I know is when he took over, gas prices were, were really, really low.” He then defended Trump, saying, “Donald Trump is trying to fix all that now, and I don’t think that the Democrats are really allowing him to do that.” Asked what Trump was doing to lower gas prices, the man responded, “He’s a businessman. He runs the country like a businessman.”
The war in Iran can contribute to higher gas prices, contrary to the Ohio man’s claims. The conflict has disrupted oil supplies and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a major route for international oil shipments. Because gasoline prices are influenced by crude oil costs and global supply and demand, disruptions in the region can push prices higher in the United States. Other factors, including domestic production, refining costs, and government policies, also affect prices.
While the man blamed former President Joe Biden and dismissed any connection between the war and gas prices, the conflict can still affect what Americans pay at the pump. His comments drew criticism from viewers who disagreed with his explanation for rising prices.
Viewers Slam Ohio Trump Supporter Over Gas Prices Argument
Many viewers criticized the Ohio Trump supporter for blaming Biden for high gas prices. They argued that Trump should be held responsible instead. “Not an ounce of critical thinking in the whole cult,” one person wrote. Another commenter added, “Ignorance like this is why this country will never have nice things again.”
Other viewers continued criticizing the man, with one commenter writing, “Hes a fascist and straight up lying. Or maybe he believes it but because it fits his fascist ideology.” Others directed their criticism at Trump supporters more broadly. One person said, “One out of three Trump supporters is just as stupid as the other two.”
Viewers disagreed over whether blaming a former president for current gas prices was justified. Some argued that the administration currently in office should also be held responsible. Others emphasized that supporting a political leader should not mean overlooking the impact of rising costs or refusing to question their decisions.
