A woman from Lima, Ohio, has accused her former employer, Buffalo Wild Wings, of racism after discovering a racial slur written on the staff schedule. In a TikTok video, she claimed that after reporting the issue to human resources, her work hours were cut and she was eventually fired for speaking up.
Her Story
According to the woman’s post on TikTok, she had been the “only fully Black server” working at the restaurant and had started the job at the beginning of August. By the last week of that month, however, she noticed her hours had been reduced without any explanation. When she asked her supervisor about it, she was told to check the posted schedule. To her shock, the printed sheet contained a racial slur written next to a name. “I immediately contacted HR, and I’m trying to figure out who the N-word in here, because it’s looking like it’s me,” the former employee said, showing an image of the schedule.
The woman said she filed a report with human resources and submitted a claim to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). However, she alleged that things only got worse afterward. “Retaliation began there. My hours have still not been fixed. In fact, they even decreased my hours and took me off all of the game days,” she said, adding that management later claimed she was untrained for morning shifts, even though she had completed both morning and night training.
They Tried to Make Her Quit
The woman said her co-workers began making her job increasingly difficult as well. “They would take my tables,” she explained. “They would purposely run everybody else’s [customer’s] food and leave [mine] in the window. Or they would plate it and then leave it there… So by the time I go pick it up, the food is cold.” She said that despite her efforts to stay professional, the hostility grew, and she believed management was trying to “silently force” her to quit.
The former employee even recalled one incident in early October when she overheard two co-workers gossiping about her in the kitchen. When she confronted them, one of them replied, “If your name is trash, then that’s who I’m talking about.” The woman chose to walk away instead of getting into an argument with them, but the next day didn’t get any better.
The same co-worker who had insulted her the previous day was working in the kitchen alongside another cook. While she was waiting for her food order, she claimed she saw the two other employees pull a garbage can closer to the counter, dig into the trash, and then plate and box her meal using items from it, fully aware that she was watching them.
Seeing them do such a thing stunned her, and she immediately contacted HR once more to report what had happened. However, three days later, she was informed that her employment had been terminated.
Netizens Share Their Opinion About the Ohio Woman’s Story
Viewers online were outraged by what the woman described, with one commenter writing, “Why are people like this 😭😭😭.” Another urged her to “gather evidence and get a lawyer!” while a third said, “That’s sad. Sorry you had to experience this. Go ahead and put a lawsuit in, babe.” A fourth added, “Don’t quit…document everything and sue them!!!”
Some also vowed to stop supporting the restaurant and share her story. “I’m reposting this, and I will not be going there again 🤌🏻,” one person wrote. Another said, “Sorry this is happening to you. Definitely going to share to get your story out there.”
