People often forget that animals, particularly those larger than humans, can be fatally dangerous in the wrong situations. Unfortunately, for Oklahoma farmer Brad McMichael, the exotic new pets he bought at an auction turned out to be anything but docile. The 45-year-old thought a pair of two mature water buffalo would make a great addition to his farm. However, shortly after taking them to his home, the two fatally wounded McMichael, causing him to die from his injuries. The water buffalo were so aggressive, in fact, first responders were “initially unable to reach the victim due to the aggressive behavior of the animals,” according to NBC.
Allegedly, online users discovered that these animals were advertised as “gentle” in a now-deleted Facebook before the auction took place. “That makes this even more tragic,” remarks a Redditor. “Those jerks misrepresenting the animals cost both the farmer and the animals their lives. RIP Brad McMichael and scared Water Buffalo.”
There’s no information on whether the family will take any legal action against the sellers who allegedly lied about the status of the exotic livestock. Still, McMichael’s girlfriend claims that “he was very experienced” in dealing with farm animals, so it’s a shock why this incident happened.
Perhaps he let his guard down at the wrong moment. As one Reddit user puts it: “Cows can be extremely gentle too. And a cow can kill you in an instant by accident, not even on purpose.” In this case, McMichael’s death was not by accident, as the water buffalo were reported to be very aggressive when he was attacked. “I want nothing to do with 2000lbs of unpredictable murder beef,” chimes in another individual.
The 45-year-old farmer’s dream was to run a farm, according to his girlfriend. While he was definitely on his way there, his underestimation of how manageable his new pair of livestock was cost him his life.
