Once Human lets you have a quaint home (in this economy?!) along with other luxuries in your own little corner of the in-game apocalypse. It’s the same for the 1.0 full release. Base-building in this game thankfully won’t limit your playstyle since you can easily move locations around. But while the game lets you move your base or territory around to help with progression, it’s a bit complex and vague. So here’s how to move territory or base locations in Once Human.

[Updated on July 17, 2024 – Revised the guide based on the Once Human 1.0 full release]

You’ll be pleased to know that moving your territory in Once Human is typically free of charge. In my escapades and constant search for a good base while moving several times, the moving didn’t cost me anything. There appears to be no Energy Link cost or even resource cost.

Hence, you can move bases without any stress or thriftiness. Here’s a step-by-step process on how to do that; note that you can do this anywhere there’s space. There’s no need to start in your base โ€” simply go to the spot where you’d like to relocate and follow these steps:

  1. Press ‘B’ if you’re on the PC platform with a keyboard.
  2. Press ‘Z’ to bring up your territory blueprint.
  3. Also, press the tilde key ‘~’ to activate flight mode for an easier time in choosing a spot for your base.
  4. Adjust the camera height to your comfort using ‘Z’ or ‘C.’
  5. Use the mouse wheel to rotate the base.
  6. If you’re satisfied with the location, click on LMB to place your base.

Again, you can do this in any valid location. Your base would be teleported instantly. Some items might get stored if they’re outside the floor foundations. Note that currently, moving your base or territory in Once Human has a cooldown of 10 minutes. This might change in the future seasons to ease up server loads or something.

Of course, the game still has its parameters when moving bases, and you can’t just squat anywhere.

Consider the following tips before you relocate in Once Human. These might help you save Energy Link or other precious resources.

  • Build doors (or even fortifications) for your base before relocating. You never know when enemies might be present in your new territory.
  • Pick a flat, elevated surface as much as possible.
  • If possible, choose a spot near the water.
  • Always stay near trees or rocks.
  • Settle near areas surrounded by your current level’s basic resource for crafting (e.g., tin ore for levels 10-20, iron ore for levels 20-30)
  • Don’t settle near enemy Strongholds (the game tells you which is which).
  • Leave your character somewhere safe while in flight mode.
  • If you’re in a PvP server, you might want to avoid sticking too close to other players.
