Memetics in Once Human, or ‘memes’ as the community likes to abbreviate it, is a fancy word for the tech tree in this fresh take on a survival RPG. Like other survival RPG tech trees, you need to pick out which nodes or perks to unlock so you can build more gear or house improvements. However, Memetics in Once Human not only cost Memetic points but also Energy-Link when unlocking them. That means you need to make some wise decisions, and that’s why I present you with my Once Human Memetics guide.

Best Memetics to Unlock

At the start, your Energy Link is going to be more limited, and your Memetic points won’t come by as easily. So I recommend unlocking the following Memetic nodes per category:

Infrastructure Tab

Copper Pickaxes to Bronze Crafting
Bronze Pickaxes to Steel Pickaxes
Chainsaws
Electro-Refining

You want to reach Steel Pickaxes as soon as possible so you can cut down the mining time. Moreover, if you have Chainsaws, base building can be a breeze. As for Electro-Refining, you likely won’t be able to use it until you’re past Level 15, but as soon as you have Steel and solar panels, make sure to replace your regular Furnace with an Electric Furnace.

Crafting Tab

Ammunition I
Gear Workbench to Long-Range Firepower
HP Recovery I to Intermediate Tools
Synthesis Bench

Long-Range Firepower, is, as you’ve guessed, for Sniper Rifles. They’re the best all-rounder weapons in the game and perform admirably in boss fights. More importantly, they keep you safe from a distance. Everything else in the table above is for convenience, but do take ‘Ammunition I‘ immediately.

Logistics Tab

Stoves to Dishes I
Air-Drying
Securement Unit Expansion I
Wish Machine
Vending Machine

The food you cook spoils even if you’re offline. So having ‘Air-Drying’ to preserve them is almost mandatory. Refrigeration might be better, but it can be costly. Of course, unlock the Wish Machine as soon as it’s available. As for the Rainwater Collection, it’s not necessary if you have the Stove already since water is easy enough to boil.

Building Tab

Wooden Support
Garage
Basic Storage to Gear Storage
Basic Defense to Auto-Turrets
Wooden Roofs to Small Wooden Support
Wooden Doors to Basic Furniture II

Garage and base defenses (turrets) are your priority here. ‘Basic Furniture II’ with its radio is also crucial for increasing Digby Boy productivity. Everything else can be optional. But do take Basic Storage and some fancier building components for added home sturdiness.

If you take these recommendations, then you should have a rather smooth early game and won’t have to re-roll your Memetic tree.
