The Prime War in Once Human is your chance to test if you’re ready for the biggest, meanest, and most otherworldly threats in the game. Prime Wars are not meant to be played solo, by the way (but nothing is stopping you from trying). Regardless of how you want to approach Prime Wars in Once Human, you need to know how to prepare for it, how it works, and how to win. So we’ve a Prime War guide for you before you dive in.
Prime Wars Explained
Prime Wars in Once Human are open-world server-wide raid bosses. They appear all over the map and you can simply click on their map icon to teleport and then join the fight if it is ongoing. Every attempt (failed or otherwise), will impose a cooldown on a specific Prime War location.
Prime Wars are practically defense missions where you need to protect a structure from a rampaging uber boss and their minions. You have to kill the boss to finish the Prime War.
If the boss destroys the structure, then the Prime War will fail. The twist is that Prime War bosses are initially immune to conventional weaponry and their armor requires explosives or specific ammunition (more on that later). At the moment Prime Wars have four difficulty levels:
Difficulty | Level |
Easy | 25 |
Hard | 35 |
Pro | 45 |
Nightmare | 50 |
Prime War Rewards
Start with Easy difficulty. You need to unlock the easier tiers if you want to access the next difficulty tier. Finishing a Prime War difficulty tier for the first time will reward you with the following:
- Starchrom upon first completion (800-1500 depending on the difficulty)
- Stardust Advent loot boxes (rewards the rarest mods, gear, and fuel)
The Starchrom reward is unconditional as long as the Prime War is successful (even if you just leeched off of more prepared players). The Stardust Advent loot boxes, however, depend on your damage contribution. That’s what we’ll cover in the next section.
Prime War Preparation in Once Human
To get the most out of Prime Wars, you need to have a high DPS (around 25,000 to 50,000+) for when boss shields are down or you need to have dozens of special Biomass Missiles to quickly destroy the Prime War boss shield/armor.
If you’re doing Prime Wars solo, you will want both a high overall DPS and Biomass Missiles (along with Gatling Cannons). Most of the time, however, other players will join in.
You can craft Biomass Missiles from the Advanced Synthesis/Synthesis Bench but note that this is merely ammunition. You need to use Gatling Cannon turrets (preferably Level 2) to fire Biomass Missiles. This is the fastest way to destroy the Prime War boss’s armor. Once their armor is down, you can finally burst them down with conventional damage.
Technically, you can use other explosive tools and weapons (launchers, grenades, Molotov, etc.) but these are too slow. On top of this, you will want to build defenses (usually fences) to slow down the Prime War boss.
Prime War Equipment
In summary, here’s what you need for Prime Wars of any level:
At least 30 Biomass Missiles (craft in Advanced Synthesis Bench), more are preferred |
A car (for carrying the heavy Biomass Missiles) |
A complete build that can put out at least 25,000+ DPS (sustained), higher is preferred |
At least 30 Biomass Missiles (craft from Synthesis Bench), more are preferred |
Backup grenades |
Building materials for at least one foundation and one Gatling Cannon |
You can skip the Biomass Missiles and the DPS check if you’re only after the Starchrom reward, but more prepared Prime War participants mean a higher chance of winning and actually finishing a Prime War.
You get nothing if the Prime War fails due to everyone just leeching or expecting to get carried. So always strive to contribute as much as you can in a Prime War.
Load as many Biomass Missiles as you can into your car’s compartment. You need this before venturing into a Prime War. If you have the Red Plasma Specialization, use it, but be wary of the crafting cost.
How to Contribute to a Prime War in Once Human
Keep checking the map frequently to see if there’s an active Prime War or coordinate with people in the World Chat (or your Warband) to start a Prime War. Once you get to the spot (just click the icon and teleport to it), here’s what you need to do:
- Ideally, you should have Biomass Missiles/Red Plasma ammo ready in your car’s compartment.
- If you join while the preparation timer is still ongoing, build at least one Foundation + Gatling Cannon (if there aren’t any present in the area).
- You can also build fences or shooting platforms if there’s still time.
- Summon your car near a Gatling Cannon and transfer the Biomass Missiles in your inventory.
- Mount the Gatling Cannon and fire on the Prime War boss once they appear.
- Once you’ve depleted the Prime War boss’s silver armor, dismount the Gatling Cannon and shoot the Prime War boss with your traditional weapon. Hopefully, the group’s DPS is high enough to deny the Prime War boss its armor phases.
- If the Prime War boss regains its armor, get back in the Gatling Cannon and shoot it again until the armor is depleted.
- Repeat steps 6-7 until the Prime war boss is dead.
- In case you run out of Biomass Missiles and the boss armor is still up, you can use grenades.
Note that Nightmare difficulty Prime Wars will have several bosses, and Prime War Manibus will have armor that can only be depleted after you defeat the other smaller bosses it summons. In any case, Prime Wars have a smoother flow and higher victory rate if everyone knows how it works, so spread the good word and share this guide with them.
