You don’t realize how important it is to find oil in Once Human until you need to start making fuel for your vehicles. There’s nothing worse than being stranded and far away from the nearest teleportation tower. However, you can turn oil into Portable Mixed Fuel and get even further.

Where To Find Oil

Finding oil involves placing your base in an area with oil pumps, namely, Red Sands. Oil can only be extracted from the ground, so it won’t work in places where oil isn’t being actively mined. For the next step, you need to have Barred Crude Oil.

Crude Oil can be refined using a water pump. To unlock the water pump, you must have unlocked the third category in the Logistics Memetics menu. In it, there’s a node that merely says Water Pump. It will cost seven Meme Points and 2,000 Energy Links.

From it, you can create two different kinds of water pumps. For the sake of collecting oil, you need to be able to create the bigger water pump. It will require the following resources:

  • 25 Steel Ingots.
  • 20 Carbon Fiber Fabrics.
  • 20 Refined Parts.
  • 20 Standard Parts.
  • 20 Electronic Parts.

Once the pump is installed somewhere on your base, connect it to a power source by going into build mode using the B button and hovering over the water pump. Once hovered over it, you will be given an option to connect a wire to it using the X button. Connect it to a solar panel and ensure it’s turned on if connected to a switch.

It takes an excruciatingly long time to make a single barrel of oil. I estimate that it takes about five minutes to create one barrel.

To start refining barrelled oil in Once Human, you need a Refining Facility. The formula for the Fuel Refinery can be found in the second category in the Infrastructure Memetics menu. The Refining Facility itself requires the following resources:

  • 25 Bronze Ingots.
  • Ten Copper Ingots.
  • Five Electronic Parts.
  • Ten Standard Parts.

You can then refine the Barrelled Crude Oil in the machine into Portable Mixed Fuel. This is great for getting even further with the fuel you have in your vehicle. You must have ten Barrelled Crude Oil to convert it into five Portable Mixed Fuel.
