A group of fishers from Oregon recently shared a viral video in which they are confronted by a male “Karen” who tries to expel them from “his property,” while the fishers argue that they have the right to be there. The incident ended with the “Karen” calling the police on them.
The footage, recorded by the men at the center of the story, quickly gained popularity and was recently shared by Tikramptok on TikTok, further amplifying the controversy.
As seen in the video, a group of men was fishing near a marina when they were interrupted by an individual who claimed to have leased the property and argued that the group had no right to be there. This sparked a dispute, as the fishers maintained that anyone can fish on a navigable public waterway and that it did not matter whether there was a sign claiming it was private property.
By the end of the video, a police officer appears and explains that the marina had been leased, meaning the men were trespassing. They continue arguing, but the officer seems intent on making them leave. Unfortunately, the video ends before viewers can find out how the situation was resolved.
Internet Reacts to Oregon Fishing Controversy
Online viewers were divided over who was right in the Oregon fishing controversy. Some sided with the fishermen, arguing that the “sheriff has no authority over the waterway.” Others said the “Karen” should “leave them alone and let them fish.”
However, some viewers were less convinced that the men in the video were in the right. One person wrote, “You 200% can fish in the marina, but cannot touch the docks or boats, or anchor or tie off to any dock or boat,” suggesting that the men may not have been following the proper rules.
Another individual argued that “if there is a lease, then the cop is correct. That would only be true if this were a privately owned lake or pond. But if this is reachable through navigable water, then the property owners have no say at all.”
Regardless of who was correct, stories like this tend to go viral because of the controversy, and this one seems to have all the right elements to spark discussion.
