Blue’s Clues is set to return to Nickelodeon in November, introducing a whole new generation to the show. But with the arising of this new era comes some familiar faces. Yes, that’s right – original hosts Steve Burns and Donovan Patton are returning as Steve and Joe respectively.
Revealed in EW, Steve and Joe will help new host Josh (Joshua Dela Cruz) as he attempts to solve his first game of Blue’s Clues.
Blues Clues & You! will continue the legacy of the original show, serving as an effective educational tool for children around the world. Studies conducted during the airing of the original show revealed that attention and comprehension of young viewers increased with each repeat viewing. The show encourages kids to solve problems and has demonstrably increased their non-verbal reasoning.
Speaking to the HuffPost in 2016, Steve Burns claimed that losing his hair was a reason for his departing the original Blue’s Clues.
I left the show because it was just simply time to go. I was pretty much playing a boyish, older-brotherish kind of character on the show. I was getting older; I was losing my hair; a lot of the original gangsters on the show, like the people who created it, were all moving on to other careers. It just felt like time. I just had a gut feeling like it was time to go
Steve Burns would go onto record a number of albums and be replaced by Donovan Patton in 2006 until the end of Blue’s Clues.
In Blue’s Clues & You!, Steve is an agent and Josh’s cousin. Joe is also a cousin of Josh and works at a gift shop.
The show has yet to release, but already merchandising deals for toys have been planned. Florida-based Just Play will produce toys, plushies and more based on the series.
