By this point, you’ve no doubt heard of George Orwell. The novelist’s works have gone on to spawn various forms of other media, including being used by corporations to make a point. They have a lasting legacy, even 70 years following his death. Reigns developer Nerial knows full and well about George Orwell, and thus are looking to explore more regarding him. Today, the London-based developer announces Orwell’s Animal Farm, a narrative adventure set for release to mobile and PC in the Fall of this year. You can find the trailer for the upcoming game below.
Orwell’s Animal Farm adapts his Animal Farm novel into a game. The book itself takes the totalitarian regime he’s known for and puts it in the context of an animal farm. You’ll found a new republic amongst the various animals, throwing out exploitative farmers and making choices that affect the farm’s future. All animals are created equal, but which animals are more equal than others? The choice is up to you. You can explore the totalitarian narrative and choose the life of animals when Orwell’s Animal Farm releases later this year.
If the game sounds intriguing to you, then perhaps Reigns will take your fancy. It doesn’t exactly go the Orwellian route, but instead puts you in a Tinder-like game that puts you in control of kingdom management. Will you swipe right to help your townsfolk build a new well, or is a stronger military worth more than water for some peasants? With many choices similar to Orwell’s Animal Farm, Reigns may just hold you over until it releases. You can find it on Android, iOS, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
With Orwell’s Animal Farm not far off the horizon, we’d love to hear your early impressions. Does Orwell’s Animal Farm look like something you want to hop into? Any other Orwell based media you’re a fan of? Let us know, and stay tuned at The Nerd Stash for all your news reviews, and more!
