Following the release of XCOM: Enemy Unknown, tactical turn-based games have been pushed to the forefront of the gaming world. That game proved that the genre could be engaging, intense, and enjoyable while offering a substantial challenge. Its sequel, XCOM 2, only furthered that excellence and made a name for itself by refining what it presented originally. The series has spawned several other tactical turn-based titles, Othercide being one of them. Its been on other major platforms for some time now, but soon a new platform will join the ring. Othercide is releasing on Nintendo Switch on September 10th, one week from this article going up.

What is Othercide?

Othercide puts you in the shoes of an unnamed character, given control of several assailants known as Daughters. Given the grim look on the world, and humanity’s near extinction, it’s up to you to use these Daughters to battle the oncoming suffering and death. Without them, your world would be lost forever. How you use these Daughters is up to you, whether you lead one into the heart of battle, evolve them to improve their strength, or sacrifice them to heal another. Othercide is a game filled with hard decisions, making things impact that much more.

This is a game that’ll go very well on the Nintendo Switch. With some easy to use controls and good visuals to boot, Othercide could almost be considered a must-buy for tactical turn-based fans. At its heart, combat is an elaborate dance that requires precise planning and forward-thinking to pull it off. One wrong move and everything could come crashing down. That’s how most of these games are, but Othercide promises a much deeper focus on that aspect than others. You’ll have to play the game to find out if it fills that promise.

Othercide will be available on the Switch next week, with it available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One right now. If you purchase the game, be sure to let us know what you think of it.
