Outrage erupted online after California police officers were filmed slamming a man to the ground and repeatedly punching him.

It was claimed online that Santa Ana police officers were involved in the incident. According to reports, the officers allegedly pulled the man from his yard into the street before “assaulting” him in front of his family after he reportedly trash-talked them.

The video was originally shared on Instagram by @ocegueraart. It showed two police officers holding the man against a vehicle. He then appeared to insult them, causing the situation to escalate. One of the officers grabbed the man and slammed him to the ground before repeatedly punching him in the face. The other officer also appeared to knee him in the stomach. “What the [expletive] is your issue?” the woman filming asked as the incident unfolded.

The officer continued striking the man as he attempted to shield his face. The other officer also appeared to punch him in the back, while the first officer seemed to knee him in the face. The woman filming, who was assumed to be a member of the man’s family, began insulting the officers as she recorded the incident. When she tried to approach them, one of the officers told her to stay back.

As the incident continued, a little girl tried to rush toward the man, but the woman stopped her at the last moment. “All he was doing was talking [expletive],” the woman told the officers in disbelief. The officers then began trying to handcuff the man while continuing to use force. One of them repeatedly pushed the man’s head against the ground before punching him again and placing his knee on the back of his head. The other officer also appeared to twist the man’s legs.

“You are a [expletive] [expletive],” the woman told the officers as the two of them continued punching the man. At that moment, another police vehicle arrived, and two additional officers joined the first two in arresting him. “It takes four of you to take one,” the woman said. She then added, “What the hell is your issue? What was the cause to start beating him?” as the officers told her to step back.

The video ended with people at the scene confronting the officers over their use of force. One witness reportedly said, “Cop attacked him because of something said that he didn’t like. Any normal person would obviously try to block someone from punching them.” Another witness allegedly said, “Irrelevant whatever he said—learn your constitutional rights! Even if they had reason to apprehend him this is excessive use of force!”

Police Department Responds to Aggressive Arrest

After the video drew significant backlash online, the Santa Ana Police Department responded to the footage circulating on social media. The department shared a statement from Chief Robert Rodriguez in a Facebook post.

“I am aware of a video circulating on social media involving an arrest on October 1, 2026, near Jackson Street and 5th Street, during which a use of force occurred. I have personally reviewed the video and want to assure our community that we take every use of force seriously. Our Department is conducting a thorough review of the incident, including body worn camera footage, reports, and the circumstances surrounding the arrest,” the statement read.

The statement concluded, “It is important that we allow that process to take place and let the facts guide our conclusions. As Chief, maintaining the trust of our community remains a responsibility I take seriously, and we will continue to approach this matter with fairness, transparency, and respect for the process.” It remained unclear whether the officers involved would face any disciplinary action or other consequences.

Viewers Outraged After California Police Officers Attack Man

The majority of viewers were left outraged after watching the video of California police officers punching a man. Many believed the level of force used was unnecessary. “They are mad with power and out of control – like ICE brutes, and depraved deranged Donald,” one person wrote. Another person said, “This needs to be on the news. Both of these officers need to be fired charged and sued. There’s no reason to be acting this way and this is disgusting, arrogant and ignorant behavior. What a piece of [expletive] in my opinion.”

More viewers continued to criticize the officers, with one person writing, “Fascist State mentality is given free reign because the Trump Administration condones and fuels it.” Another person said, “I see two former CA Leos, a courtdate and a city in California a lot less capital to spend. If this is what they do with people around, imagine what the hell they would do if no one was around.”

The video led viewers to discuss how much force police officers should use during arrests. This is along with the need for it to be proportionate to the situation. It also brought attention to the importance of documenting police encounters, particularly when allegations of excessive force arise.
