Outrage erupted online after a Florida woman admitted to stealing hot sauce from Chipotle whenever she visits the restaurant.

A video filmed by the woman was shared online and quickly drew backlash. In the footage, she stood at a counter inside a Chipotle restaurant and filmed the items placed on it. Napkins, cups, and bottles of Tabasco hot sauce could be seen on the counter.

The woman then grabbed one of the hot sauce bottles and admitted that she allegedly takes a bottle with her every time she visits Chipotle. To demonstrate, she placed the bottle inside the bag containing her order before adding forks as well. “You know what? Let’s go ahead, and go,” the woman said.

Viewers online quickly expressed outrage, with many believing the woman had publicly admitted to stealing from the restaurant. However, it remains unclear if she actually takes the hot sauce bottles as she claimed. The video could have also been staged or exaggerated to attract views.

Taking hot sauce bottles or other restaurant-owned condiments from a place such as Chipotle without permission is not appropriate. Depending on the circumstances and applicable local laws, intentionally taking property that belongs to a restaurant without permission could potentially be considered theft. This is although the exact legal consequences would depend on the jurisdiction and value of the property. In this case, the woman’s alleged repeated behavior could therefore raise more concerns than simply taking an extra condiment with an order.

Beyond the possible legal consequences, removing hot sauce bottles can also inconvenience other customers. It leaves fewer condiments available and creates an unnecessary cost for the restaurant, which may have to replace them. If this behavior became common, restaurants could also respond by keeping hot sauce and other condiments behind the counter or in locked containers. This will require customers to ask employees for them instead of accessing them freely. What may seem like a harmless act can therefore affect both the business and other customers who legitimately expect those supplies to be available.

The video sparked reactions online. Many viewers were left outraged after seeing the Florida woman’s video, in which she allegedly took a hot sauce bottle from the restaurant. Some believed that this type of behavior could negatively affect other customers by making restaurants less willing to leave condiments freely available. “There’s a reason we can’t have nice things,” one person wrote. Another person said, “If you have no concept of the honor system, you have no place in our society.”

More people criticized the woman over her alleged actions. One person wrote, “She thinks she is hurting the business but is only hurting herself and everyone else that patronizes that business.” Another person said, “This how a high-trust society is eroded, thousands of seemingly inconsequential violations of good faith. This ultimately harms all of us.”

The video sparked a conversation about how people should not take items from restaurants without permission. This is even if they seem inexpensive or insignificant. It also raised concerns that repeated incidents could ultimately hurt all customers. This is because restaurants may become more cautious about leaving condiments freely available. They could also take additional measures to prevent these items from being taken.
