In the episode, AOC discussed her perspective on the Civil Rights and Voting Rights movements. She then said, “And how Black Americans really created democracy in this country.” Glazer appeared to agree with the sentiment during the conversation. The representative also added that Black Americans made “something from nothing.”
In addition to her comments on democracy, AOC also spoke about Indigenous peoples and how they have survived historically. She later added that she thinks about immigrants as well, saying that, in her view, all of these groups are part of “what America is all about.” While she made several points during the discussion, her remark about Black Americans “creating democracy” was the part that drew the most attention online.
