Cassidy, everyone’s favorite cowboy in Overwatch 2 can be an absolute pain to counter if you choose the wrong heroes. He can be relentless and deadly if you let him gain the upper hand, more so with his Ultimate and ability to nail headshots. Although he can punish well, there are a few different heroes in Overwatch 2 who can dish out all the same on both the solo queue side and when coordinating as a team.

Cassidy Skills and Abilities
Cassidy is a Damage hero in Overwatch 2, so to counter him, you need to understand what he’s working with. As with the other heroes, he’s seen a rework of both his design and skills from Overwatch. No longer will you have to contend with the Magnetic Grenade. But the abilities he has are still devastating when in the right hands:
- Peacekeeper: Cassidy’s signature weapon, the revolver is hard-hitting and capable of rapid fire.
- Combat Roll: This is perhaps his most handy skill when timed correctly. Cassidy can roll in the direction he’s moving in, and during this, incoming damage is reduced and he automatically reloads.
- Deadeye: Here you can have a Wild West standoff with your opponents. Lock in and fire with deadly precision.
With the right positioning, Cassidy can easily pick off the opposing team. So if you notice one on the field, keep these skills in mind so you’re not caught off guard.
Best Way to Counter Cassidy in Overwatch 2
Regardless of your hero, movement is key if you want to counter Cassidy in Overwatch 2. His mobility isn’t the best, so you’ll want to take advantage of that. But do so in a smart way. Flanking him isn’t always easy if your movement is too simple. You’ll leave yourself open for easy headshots.
Keep your movement precise, yet sporadic so Cassidy can’t nail you down. With that out of the way, let’s look at some helpful heroes that typically work well against him:
- Orisa: This Tank can work well at bullying Cassidy and soaking up enough attention for your teammates to roll in and take him out. Her Fortify skill is perfect at letting her get in close, same with her Javelin Spin ability.
- Tracer: Tracer is fast. Utilize her Blink ability to throw Cassidy off. If things get too hot, you can always get out of the situation just as quickly as you got into it.
- Sombra: While this Damage hero isn’t always a major counter to Cassidy in Overwatch 2, the element of surprise is on her side if played right. A well-placed Hack or Virus can take him out whether Sombra does it herself or another stronger hero on the team comes in.
- Genji: Genji is another fast hero who can dodge Cassidy’s otherwise strong shots. Getting in close to deal swift damage is a high point too. But he can also climb walls, which can work on offense and defense.
With the removal of the Magnetic Grenades for Cassidy, he’s a bit easier to counter with any fast Overwatch 2 hero. Just watch out for those headshots, especially with his Ultimate, and you should be able to take him out.
