Overwatch’s newest hero Lucio rolled into Gamescom 2015 as the game’s newest Support hero. A DJ turned freedom fighter, Lucio is an extremely mobile hero that brings unique mechanics and powerful buffs to his teammates. A movement mechanic unique to Lucio is his ability to briefly run on walls. As long as Lucio is alive he is bolstering himself and his allies with music. His gun is a Sonic Amplifier that he uses to shoot enemies with sonic projectiles or blast them away.
His second ability, Crossfade, allows him to switch between two tracks of music, therefore two different team buffs: one that regenerates health, the other increases movement speed. The next ability is Amp it Up, Lucio pumps up the volume, increasing the effects of his music.
His ultimate ability is Sound Barrier. Lucio turns his amplifier to eleven and provides each ally in the area with a large personal shield.
Two new maps were also announced, Volskaya Industries and Numbani, one for each game type.
Volskaya Industries is in a snowy setting, the structures include large libraries, museums, and a mech factory full of moving platforms. Numbani is a bright and colorful airport in one of Overwatch’s most technologically advanced cities.
Overwatch is scheduled for closed beta this fall.
