Nintendo Directs are always a fun time; speculation runs wild, hopes and dreams are made true or crushed, and we all hope for that famous “one more thing.” Inevitably, though, something usually gets leaked just a little early, and this time it’s a big one: Blizzard’s massively popular competitive team shooter, Overwatch, is coming to the Nintendo Switch next month.
The leak’s been confirmed by a few different sources but follows Amazon’s blunder showing off an official Overwatch Switch case last month. The nail in the coffin, though (nail removed from the coffin? Something about coffins,) was a European retail listing leak showing an EU release date of October 18th, ad likely October 15th in the US.
Obviously, given the circumstances, there isn’t a lot to go off of on whether the game will feature cross-progression with other platforms, but given the fact that that isn’t the case as things currently stand, we’re not going to say that the odds are good on that one.
The leak also included a tease at a new Plants vs. Zombies game, which is neat, but the coolest part about that is that EA confirmed the game just a few hours after this retail leak, giving it even more ground to stand on. If October 15th/18th is indeed the release date, Blizzard’s going to have some competition in the form of The Witcher 3, also dropping on the 15th. That being said, Overwatch is sort of like Rocket League in that it’s likely everyone who’s ever looked at a video game probably owns it, so it’s doubtful that Blizzard’s too worried about the competition here, even in the face of a CD Projekt Red masterpiece going mobile.
