Even the worst beach trip won’t leave you sleeping with the fishes, but Palia‘s got another kind of cutthroat to worry about. Like other fish in this cozy life sim, the Cutthroat Trout is a multipurpose item. You can sell it for a bit of coin, make a gift of it to charm an NPC, or just chow down on a tasty fish fillet. Fishing is easy if you don’t care which species you catch, but angling for a specific swimmer takes more work. Thankfully, you won’t need any easy fishing mods to sink your hook. Here’s how to find and catch Cutthroat Trout in Palia.

You won’t require any mods to catch a Cutthroat Trout in Palia, but it will require a trip to Bahari Bay, just like searching for Hodari. You can catch this fish at any time of day, so the clock isn’t a concern. There are a few things you can do to increase your chances of snagging a trout, however:
- Fish in the local rivers of Bahari Bay
- Use the Worm as your bait
- Avoid the “No Bait” and “Glow Worm” options (trout are picky and won’t bite)
- Focus on the rivers between Thorny Thicket and Statue Garden or Statue Garden and Proudhorn Pass
- Look out for ripples you can fish in to increase your odds of a Quality catch
You can get Worms from the General Store for 10 Gold each. Alternatively, if you’ve reached Fishing Level 4, you can buy the Worm Farm recipe from Einar for 500 Gold. Once created, a Worm Farm provides one Worm per hour. No more costly crawlies! You can sell Cutthroat Trout, but it’s often better to cook up Trout Dinner with this fish instead. That Fishing Boost will only make it easier to catch the next Cutthroat before it comes for your neck.
