In the world of Pokemon-with-survival-element-and-guns that is Palworld, you’ll meet and befriend hundreds of cute and powerful Pals. Similar to other monster-collecting titles, they all come equipped with different Types such as Fire, Thunder, and Ice. Creating a balanced team will be important to tame the vast and dangerous land. Thus, learning the ins and outs of Palworld‘s Pal Type is crucial if you want to be the very best like no one ever was.

Just like in Pokemon games, Pals can come with Dual-Typing as well. For example, the chubby penguin Pengullet is a Water/Ice Type Pal while the tree sap Pal Gumoss is a Ground/Grass Type.

Pals can also learn moves that are different than their Type. For instance, the Neutral Pal called Eikthyrdeer can learn the Stone Blast and Stone Cannon Ground-Type attacks.

Later in the game, once you have unlocked the Mixed Farm to breed Pals, you’ll be able to mix and match Typings. Breeding and combining Pals will result in the offspring inheriting the stats of its two parents. However, at the time being, only specific Pals can be bred into having different element Types. Rare Pals can also be crossbred to produce special and stronger variants called Fusion Pals.

Similar to other monster-catching games, Types in Palworld comes with its strengths and weaknesses. The most obvious one is Fire Type Pal, which is susceptible to Water Type attacks or Grass being weak against Fire. The specific calculations are not known yet, but it is safe to assume that Type advantage will deal double the amount of damage. On the other hand, Pals that are strong against specific Types will take half the damage than usual.

We have listed all of Palworld‘s Type weaknesses and strengths in the table below. But in-game, you can always check the Pal elemental Typing counters through the Survival Guide menu.

Looking at the chart and table above, there are two important takeaways when looking for Pals: The first is that Fire Type Pals and attacks are the best for offense since they are effective against two Elements. On the other hand, Neutral Pals can be at a huge disadvantage during fights since they cannot counter any enemy Types.

Nevertheless, that does not mean Neutral Pals are useless. As mentioned before, Pals can still learn moves that have a different element Type than their base stats. Each Type is also only weak against one other Type, which means it’s still only weak against Dark. Lastly, as Palworld has deep survival, crafting, and exploration gameplay mechanics, lots of Pals have their uses even outside of battles.
