If you like Commandos, Desperados, and Shadow Tactics, you might want to keep an eye on Partisans 1941. Developed by Russian studio Alter Games and published by Daedalic Entertainment, Partisans 1941 is a brand new real-time tactic game set on the Eastern Front during World War II. The game releases worldwide on Steam on October 14th, 2020, but if you want to try it before buying the game, Alter Games have also released a demo on Steam. This is why I like smaller releases. Sometimes they still give out an old-fashioned, free to keep demo builds instead of timed “beta tests” or early access nonsense. If you’d like to check out the trailer before playing the demo, you can do so below.
Partisans 1941 takes place in Nazi-occupied Soviet Russia, as its title suggests, and tells the story of a war-time prisoner and Red Army commander Alexey Zorin. After he managed to escape a Nazi internment camp, he decides to form a guerilla group of partisans to attack and disrupt the local occupants. In his attempt at fighting the occupying forces, Alexey can recruit soldiers and even common civilians as allies, helping him doing a variety of missions from discreet sabotage to extensive attacks on German supply lines. Finding, recruiting, and leveling up new resistance members is important to building your squad of choice in Partisans 1941. Each of them will be equipped with unique skills and special items, so knowing when and where to use them will be crucial.
In-between Partisans 1941’s missions, you also need to develop your basecamp and ensure you have enough resources to keep your people alive and motivated to fight the German army. You can also scout nearby regions, to look for weak spots and the perfect opportunities to strike the occupying forces. Real-time tactics combined with base-building and squad management. Sounds pretty fun if you ask me. Are you going to try out the demo version? Tell me what you think of Partisans 1941 in the comments below.
