One of the most intimidating aspects of Path of Exile is how over the years new gameplay mechanics continue to pile on top of old ones. Nowadays, the game feels like the ARPG equivalent of 5D Chess With Multiverse Time Travel. Thankfully, the Path of Exile Affliction expansion is looking to clean up some of its mechanics’ bloat by compacting them into a single system through the use of Transfigured Gems.
Path of Exile Transfigured Gems are one of the biggest and handiest features in the Affliction expansion and it aims to simplify the layers of Skill Gem management involved in the game. Here’s what you need to know to get acquainted with this new system.
The All New Path of Exile Transfigured Gems Mechanic
Once you’re in the game, you can load up an old character in Standard or work your way up with a new character in a new League to access the Divine Font. You can craft and mix up Transfigured Gems through the Divine Font in-game.
Here’s what you can do in the Divine Font now:
- Add Experience to a Gem
- Transform a Support Gem into a random Exceptional Gem
- Transform a Gem into an alternate version of the Skill Gem with a different function. You can determine whether it’s a random Gem or the same Gem with a random new capability.
They might not seem much, but you have to remember that these are buffs to a lot of the Skill Gems, particularly those that might have seen less use over the years due to more powerful alternatives.
These are the known list of Path of Exile Transfigured Gems which you can obtain by picking the “Transform into a Transfigured Gem” option.
- Animate Weapon of Ranged Arms
- Arc of Branching
- Barrage of Volley Fire
- Bladestorm of Uncertainty
- Blade Trap of Greatswords
- Blink Arrow of Bombarding Clones
- Blink Arrow of Prismatic Clones
- Blight of Contagion
- Detonate Dead of Scavenging
- Double Strike of Impaling
- Firestorm of Meteors
- Firestorm of Pelting
- Flame Dash of Return
- Frost Bomb of Instability
- Frozen Legion of Rallying
- Raise Zombie of Falling
- Volcanic Fissure of Snaking
Some of these Transfigured Gems modifications completely change the situational function of a Skill. Double Strike, for example, used to be just a single-target skill, but the Transfigured Gem version can now cause an “Impale” effect which spreads the damage to surrounding enemies.
Accessing Transfigured Gems
To access the Divine Font and Transfigured Gems, you only need to get to the end of the Eternal Labyrinth, which means running these perilous gauntlets and obtaining or trading for Offerings to the Goddess. That also means it’s only accessible to high-level characters.
Previously, the Divine Font at the end of the Eternal Labyrinth was a device that allowed you to add special qualities to your items. By default, the Divine Font offers two uses. Like everything in Path of Exile, you still need to choose wisely or wallow in Regret Orbs.
