It seems like the ban on SNAP and all of its various restrictions and new policies affecting millions across the country. While many states have embraced the new restrictions, all part of President Trumps Big Beautiful Bill, some states have not. Pennsylvania is one such state and not only are they not embracing the SNAP ban on soda and candy, but the Democrats local to the state are also embracing and proud to be defying an order that many see as heinous and one sided.

22 states have adopted junk food rules for SNAP. Why hasn’t Pa.?

In a Reddit post shared to the Pennsylvania thread by user pennlive, a discussion formed where many like minded liberals citizens from the Keystone state where the fact that they were not one of the 22 states to enact the new SNAP ban. For those uninitiated with the SNAP ban, it was a major driving force led by Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F Kennedy Jr to make America healthy again.

However, there are many who don’t agree the program is necessary, and even more who don’t believe it actually works as intended anyways. In addition, Pennsylvania is known for their snacks, chocolate and more, and a ban on all of that wouldn’t do great for local business either. While Governor Shapiro hasn’t made an official ruling on the ban, many in the thread had a lot to say about the policy.

“God forbid poor people have any fun”

“Why hasn’t Pennsylvania? Because it’s ineffective and wasteful. Plus, it’s insulting to the dignity of the people who use it. This kind of policy is pushed so people can feel better about themselves for not needing SNAP.”

“First we demonize the poor and make them jump through hoops to try to feed themselves and then we try to tell them they can’t have a soda. How bout the rich politicians can’t trade stock? How bout the billionaires stop getting tax breaks? How bout we come together as a working class and fight for each other instead of against each other? I would rather my tax dollars go to a soda for a poor kid than a bomb for a poor kid across the world.”

“Even if take empathy or morality out of equation it still stupid to do things this way, these sorts of programs benefit society as a whole MAGNITUDES more than they cost. It not money spent or waste it money invested so reduce future much higher potential drains and increase the number who will actively work in and grow the economy. Also sharply reduces crime.”

Pennsylvania citizens seem pretty stoked to be one of the states defying the order to ban snacks and soda for people on benefits. Of course, many disagree, and they think that healthy living is a net positive for anybody, but until Gov. Shapiro makes an official ruling, anything in the snack isle goes.
