While attending a FIFA World Cup event in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a woman happened across a lost credit card. Trying to do the right thing, she attempted to hand it over to Philly police and a security guard, who all seemed uninterested. She states in her video, “Philly police to NOT take their job serious.”
TikTok user Giannie.cx clipped the encounter on TikTok, while she and her friend were at the sports event. She announces to her party, “We have to return it to their rightful owner.” She walks up to some police officers and says, “I don’t want anyone else just getting it. Is there, like, guest services?”
Instead of meeting her with answers, the Philly Police clearly just want to mess around. They urge her, “Just go spend it.” The other states, “Go buy yourself like a Louis bag.” Giannie is shocked by their answer and laughs as she says, “Security started fighting at the gate, too,” wondering why police aren’t taking anything seriously.
She adds, “Police are giving the wrong advice.” Eventually, when she asks where guest services are, one of them answers her and says, “I’ll walk you.” He takes Giannie to guest services and hands over the card to them. Her hope is they’ll find the rightful owner and return it to them.
Just like the Philly police, the guest services were unhelpful, too. The guard who takes the card from her just states: “Thank you for dinner.” Giannie walks away from them, shocked at how unserious the entire interaction was as she tried to do a good deed.
People online were unsurprised police were unhelpful
Commenters on Giannie’s TikTok video took this as an opportunity to share their distaste for police. Although many didn’t have that much faith in police to begin with, commenters were very surprised the police made the remarks they did. “No way the police said that 💀,” wrote one commenter.
“Cops never give a [expletive] about doing their job,” wrote another. To this, one commenter felt it was a poor attempt at securing an arrest. “He said that so they can arrest her for theft use your brain 💀.”
Some viewers insisted the police didn’t have to do anything, arguing it wasn’t part of the job. One commenter argued otherwise, saying it’s “prevention of crime” and using said card by someone other than the owner would constitute “fraud.”
Others in the comment section offered advice. If you happen across a credit card, the best thing you can do is call the bank, inform them of the lost card so the account can be locked. As Giannie discovered, she couldn’t trust the police at all.
