Posted by MikeDavJ, the photo shows a square-shaped banner of Trump with the words, “I’d rather vote for a felon than a jack[expletive].” While it’s common knowledge that the donkey is a symbol for the Democrat party, it’s quite clear what the words meant in this context.
“I feel this describes the same person,” wrote MikeDavJ, referring to the felon and the curseword for a dolt. They weren’t alone with this sentiment, with hundreds of others sharing assertive thoughts in the comments about both the sign and the person who put it up.
Commenters Upset Over How Political Discourse Has Become in the US
“American political discourse in a nutshell,” remarked a user, pointing out how childish insults have been a common tactic used by the President on more than one occasion. “The whitest of trash,” said another, insulting the trailer’s owner.
For reference, reports state that Trump has indeed been found guilty of 34 felony counts, primarily over things that occurred before his 2016 election. That said, he has become the “first convicted felon to hold the White House,” according to CBC.
Another commenter chimed in about the sign, saying, “This is why we can never take them seriously. Nor can we truly repair this level of rot in critical thinking.” The user continued, blaming Ronald Reagan for ruining political discourse in the US by eliminating the Fairness Doctrine.
On the other hand, a fourth added how “It’s strange the number of posts/articles I’ve seen over the last few weeks claiming that Trump is starting to lose his base.” One prime example would be the billboard in Idaho that went viral. It was a quote from LeavingMAGA, an organization run and supported by those who no longer support Trump.
That said, one person pointed out how the main issue with political discourse in America, especially as of late, is how people treat their political affiliation like a sports team. As they put it, there’s “No logic, just cheering for arbitrary colors, places they were born, uniforms, and mascots.”
